TIKE Sticker

About the TIKE sticker program
The Ohio Council of the National Association of Insurance Women International contacted the Ohio Insurance Institute (OII) in 2003 seeking co-sponsorship of its TIKE (Toddler Info Kept for Emergencies) program. TIKE is a child safety seat sticker that provides identifying information to emergency personnel should an accident render the adults in the vehicle unresponsive.

Once filled out by a family member, the bright neon green stickers provide the child’s emergency contact and medical information to first responders.

On the back of the sticker is the following story, which serves as the basis of the program. It reads:

In 1995 a six-month-old boy was involved in a head-on crash while riding with a relative. The driver was rendered unconscious and the child suffered a life-threatening head injury, with no way to identify him. Emergency responders were only able to trace his parents through an address book found in the wreckage. Valuable time was lost. The child was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency brain surgery and subsequently recovered.

Additional note on where to place car seat sticker
Current TIKE sticker directions suggest that they be placed on the back or base of car seats. OII recommends placing the sticker on a flat surface of the seat in a location that is not readily visible to passerbys. This can also be on the side of the seat for quicker identification by medical responders. Please remember that you are adding personal info to the sticker that you may not want others to readily see.

Versions available
TIKE stickers are available in English and Spanish/English. Quantities are free thanks to the generosity of OII members.
You don’t have to live in Ohio order these. To date, OII has distributed close to 750,000 TIKE stickers across Ohio, around the country and around the world.
They’re available to parents, safety groups, medical practitioners, childcare operators, fire stations, law enforcement, fire departments, EMS divisions, hospitals, insurance companies, businesses, schools and others sharing in OII’s common interest of child safety.

To order
TIKE stickers are free and can be ordered by email from the Ohio Insurance Institute. All we ask in return is that you “like” OII’s Facebook page. Just send us your mailing address, quantity requested and version(s) of the sticker with your email request.
